the best fruit

Clementines are sweet, seedless and easy to peel. All my kids have been able to peel their own at an early age, so that’s one less task for me. They cost anywhere from $3.99 to $6.99 a box during their short season in the winter months. They might be a little pricier than other citrus, but the peels are so thin, there’s barely any waste, plus you’re never stuck with a huge bag of pithy, dry oranges that no one wants to eat. I love these things! Today when I opened the fridge to get a couple apples to slice for lunch, my toddler grabbed a clementine. I figured I’d let him play with it a minute and then pick it up after he threw it down. Well, my little guy had other plans for his treasure. See, they’re easy to peel. Even a 15 month old can do it!

Hannah really likes these too. We have the same problem with the pithy oranges. She’ll eat up all of the clementines and ask for more! This brought up a discussion about the song “Oh My Darling Clementine” during our last visit in Malcom. We had no idea what the song was really about until we Google’d it and read all the lyrics-wow!
