where’s the birthday girl?

abby2.jpgThis picture was taken three years ago on Abby’s second birthday. Today, she would be turning 5 if she were still here. When I looked through her photo album to pull out the picture to post here, I was bummed that the cake looks pathetic and that she’s wearing the silly bib…wish I had a better picture, but this is reality.

…precious little girl, your mommy misses you. Exactly five years ago, I called your grandparents to let them know I was in labor. I’ll always remember your start and stop labor and I’ll always remember your two short years with us.

So where’s the birthday girl? Answer: she’s in heaven.

I know it’s not your favorite photo, but I like it. Like you said… “this is reality.” I like that you can see the little dimple on her left cheek, and she just seems very content with her mouthful of icing or whatever she’s tasting. I like the normal every-day-ness of the photo.

And, Papa misses you, Abby. I am so glad that Jesus lives, because so do you and so will I – forever.

I think my post must have gotten lost in limbo the other day… I wanted you to know that I was thinking of you and remembering your beautiful girl – I still carry her photo around in my wallet next to my own kids. Loving you and missing you all.

I miss her, too. Rejoicing with you that Abby is not gone forever, but that we will be with her forever- in the presence of Jesus. Continuing to pray for you. That you will know the peace of God and that you will trust Him completely, even if/when you don’t understand.
