Hi, my name is Alex, and I am almost ten years old. When I grow up, I want to be a zookeeper. My brother Caleb wants to work in my zoo. I have a pet gecko named Stripe. He eats crickets. My favorite game to play is stratego, and my favorite books to read are Freddy the Pig books, but I read lots of different books. This is the best picture I ever took of my gecko.

March 28, 2009 Dad let me get three dollars out of my bank account. I bought some candy with it and sold it. Then I bought more candy with the money I made from that and at the end of the day I had over $14 so I made $11 just by selling candy.

p.s. I’ll have pictures soon.

April 7, 2008 Today Mom let Caleb and I ride our bikes to Hill n Dale park and we caught a 2 foot long garter snake. It bit me two times, once on the chin and and the other time on my thumb. It’s not poisonous and it didn’t even puncture the skin and its acting like its poisonous. I will catch it again and Mom or Dad can take a picture of me holding the snake.

_______________July 5, 2007 I took all these pictures of my Narnia Stratego and made this slideshow all by myself after Mom uploaded the pictures for me.

I filmed my gecko outside on the driveway. Mary and Caleb are talking. A car went by. You can hear it.

I got a watch and some books for my birthday and we had apple pie instead of cake. I have been wanting a watch for a long time, but I couldn’t have one until I knew how to tell time. I know now. I asked for apple pie.

Man O’War was the fastest race horse in the world. He won 20 out of his 21 races. He won $249,465 in prize money. He was foaled on March 29, 1917. His sire was Fair Play. He died in November 1947. Thousands of people went to his funeral. He is buried in the Horse Park in Lexington, KY. Man O’War is one of my favorite horses.

Today, I did an activity from my math book. I poured water in a measuring glass until it was 1 liter. Then I poured it into a 1 liter cup. Then I got a pail and a bowl. I guessed how much the pail would hold. 2 liters? No, 3. Then I poured 1 liter of water in the bowl. It was full.

I’m so excited. I beat my Dad in Stratego a couple nights ago.

Stratego is my favorite game. I beat almost everybody I play (except for Colin, Grampa, and dad.) My dad found a website for stratego. It has strategy on it for playing. I like it. You should see it.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving. The Burghers came over. Jonathan, Caleb, and I played fort for a long time. I took a turkey leg. I could not eat it all. It was too big.

  1. I love the blog. Your papa once ate a whole turkey leg. You will have to ask him how old he was at the time. I am very anxious to see you.

  2. I’m glad that you didn’t eat the whole turkey leg, Alex. I’ve heard that if a boy eats too much turkey he can turn into one!

  3. I ate a whole turkey leg when I was about your age, Alex. I’ve been eating turkey legs ever since, and I didn’t turn into a turkey. At least, I don’t think I did.

  4. Hi Alex,

You sold me on the Planet Earth!!!

    I just have one question…

If I don’t like it cold or Hot, maybe just a little in-between… Where on Earth should I go? Please tell me what Kentucky is like. Do you think I would like it there?

  5. i like your blog, alex. keep up the good writing. there are a lot of people who have made comments about turkey legs. maybe they are the turkeys! Ha! love you.

  6. Alex,

I’m so proud of you and all that you are learning! Has your dad taken you to a horse race yet? Have you ever ridden a horse?

When I worked at Stony Glenn Camp I took care of the horses and helped the young campers ride them. I had such a great time!

    I miss you!

    Your Uncle Sam

  7. I had no idea that Man o’ War earned so much $$$. Don’t you wonder what he did with all that cash? He didn’t have any clothes to buy…but he did have to purchase shoes. Do you think his shoes cost $249,000? Keep writing!
    Love,

  8. whaz- up? time for news from Alex. I heard you got braces. Also heard you’ve been doing some dentistry for Caleb. Let’s hear about it. Love you, ya knucklehead.

  9. Alex, I am so impressed at how well you write. You express yourself so well. Are you planning to be the head zookeeper? Will Caleb have to clean out the elephant pen? You can tell me all about it when I see you this week.

  10. Alex I enjoyedwatching the short movie on your gecko. I glad he did not run away from you. Hope you are having a good week. What are you and your families plans for the summer? See you Sunday, Mrs. B

  11. alex- nice camera work. your gecko is a star. I think your birthday pie looks delicious. wish i could have been there. say hi to gma vc.

  12. I enjoyed reading your most recent posts about your birthday celebration and Stripe’s video. I can’t wait to show Guy and Emma!

  13. Alex,

I have been very entertained reading your postings. The film about Stripe is top shelf! I am also pretty sure that the turkey legs have had some effect on Papa. Keep up the good work!

  14. Alex, I just have to tell you that we have wild geckos living in our back yard in Texas! We have lots of pets here in Houston.

  15. Hey Alex! I hope you are having a good time being back in school. Your mom said you are writing a fable soon. Maybe you can post it online so we can all read it…

  16. Oh, your gecko is much bigger than the ones in the wild here. So much for everything in Texas being bigger! LOL Now I could pick up the little guy. At your house that is. =) But shhhh! Don’t tell my son that. He would probably find the idea of a pet gecko intriguing! =)
